When you think of snakes you always image a big scary snake but infact these snakes are big but not scary and do make great pets. im writing this to explain why this is from my personal experience with working with big snakes. there are a few big snakes in the pet trade and few of them dont seem to have the lime light for example blood pythons these pythons i would consider as big snakes my reasoning is the girth of these snakes are big and i belive this makes them a big snake these snakes do have a reputation for being aggressive and have a big bite but finding out how to work with these snakes is the most important factor Boa Constrictors are another big snake that are popular and grow to a manageable size their docile nature makes them a great pet for keepers that have been keeping smaller snakes and want to move up to a bigger snake and with morphs being produced like sunglow they are amazing colour mutations at a reasonable price Carpet Python are a snake that gets a bad reputation for being aggressive but the carpets I have worked with have been either docile or vivarium defensive but these do make an interesting snake to work with although working with one of these snakes you will one day be tagged by one of these snakes for sure Taiwanese Beauty Snake are beautiful but not what you would call a big snake i have put these on this blog as they are small girth but a long active snake that can be a handful so i would class them as a big snake as babies these snakes tend to be agresive in a defensive manor but as more handling is done the calmer they get as they get older not a mainstream pet choice as there are not many in the pet trade but are becoming more widely kept and bred in the UK Burmese Pythons are one of the most widely kept big snakes and for good reason there temperament is superb docile and active males are much more appealing to keep as they are lot smaller than there female counterpart but if you like big than a female is the best way to go feeding response is amazing here at the reptile shop we are specializing in breeding and keeping these fantastic snakes as there isnt a specialist shop in the morecambe and Lancaster area Reticulated Pythons are the daddy of big snakes and not for the faint hearted these snakes do get big there is enough polymorphic to please everyone's colour choice and over the last few years reticulated pythons have exploded in demand in the UK these were nearly banned in the USA but thanks to the hard work of USARK they have been removed from this threat for now aggressive as babies and vivarium defensive fast moving and quick to respond they are a species that will keep you on your toes overall working with these big snakes are fun and interesting might not be everyone cup of tea (im a coffee drinker) if you want to find out more about these great snakes pop down to the shop and come talk to us
